We have been living in Michigan for a few months now and I feel I have seen and done so little. The brutal cold has made me mostly housebound and it has taken me a while to settle into our home and the area. The spring and summer months should be beautiful here, and then we will be gone already. Jason has about six to eight months left before he goes to North Carolina for training, and during that time I plan to return to New York. Jason has been very busy breaking ice on the Biscayne Bay these past few months so I have barely seen him! Luckily, he was home for the past two weeks and we got to spend some quality time together.
Last weekend Jason had to go to Traverse City for a flight physical so he can officially be on the list for A school. Instead of going alone in one of the Coast Guard vans, we made a little trip out of it! Supposedly, Traverse is one of the best cities in Michigan. It was certainly more lively than Saint Ignace, but the cold temps still made me want to be inside. We walked along Front Street and checked out some cute boutiques and a really nice bookstore. We had a fabulous vegetarian dinner and stayed in a hotel where Jason got to swim. The next day we gorged on pancakes before making the trip home. Even though it was a short, uneventful trip, it was really nice to get out of our house and town for a couple of days.
Yesterday we spent the day in our own town. The weather was a bit warmer and that gave us reason to go outside! We walked out onto Lake Huron which is currently completely frozen, and we walked along the Huron Boardwalk to the Lighthouse. Milo is definitely not a snow dog, but he loves it nonetheless. He eats it and runs around, falling chest deep into cold, cold, snow... but he loves it!
Hopefully warmer days are on their way and the snow starts melting soon... as beautiful as it is, we are tired of the winter blues!
